Although switching weight loss medication is a common part of medical practice, we understand it can feel like a big step for you. There are several reasons why moving from Mounjaro to Wegovy might be the right choice, including cost, availability, side effects, or simply finding the medication that best suits your body and long-term goals.
Why you might be switching
Whatever the reason, our clinical team will create a personalised transition plan to help you maintain progress and minimise side effects.
Is it safe to switch?
In most cases, yes. Both Mounjaro and Wegovy are GLP-1 receptor agonists, working in similar ways to regulate appetite and support weight loss. Switching between them is usually well-tolerated under medical supervision. Importantly, there’s no need for a “wash-out” period: if you’ve been tolerating Mounjaro well, you can take your last dose one week and start Wegovy the next.
Choosing your dose
There is no exact one-to-one match between doses, but we follow clinical guidance to select the safest and most effective starting point. If you have tolerated Mounjaro well, you’ll usually begin at an equivalent Wegovy dose. If side effects have been an issue, your prescriber may recommend starting lower and increasing gradually.
What to expect after switching
You may notice appetite changes or familiar side effects such as mild nausea, constipation, or diarrhoea, especially during the early weeks. Weight loss may initially feel different, but after six months results are often similar between the two medicines. Evidence suggests that by one year, Wegovy can achieve outcomes comparable to Mounjaro when used consistently.
